The program features four soloists: Jennifer Turner (soprano), Gina Johnson (soprano), Deanna Sills (mezzo soprano), and Nathan McDonald (baritone). The choir will be accompanied by an orchestra with members from the Victoria Symphony.
This will be the Canadian premiere of Matthew Coleridge’s Requiem, a deeply moving work for choir, soloists and solo cello, accompanied by strings. Requiem is Coleridge’s most widely performed work which grew out of fragments of music that Coleridge (b. 1980) had written over the years and which he completed in 2015. Beautiful soaring melodies conjure a mystic monasticism and weave together into a tapestry of rich and dazzling harmonies in this Mass honouring the dead. Sir Neville Mariner describes Coleridge’s Requiem as “A valuable addition to 21st century choral music.”
