Music Director Brian Wismath leads the Victoria Choral Society, soloists and orchestra in an exciting performance of choral masterworks by Vivaldi, Rheinberger and Nystedt. With its lively rhythms and exquisite melody lines, Vivaldi’s Gloria will transport listeners to 17th century Italy at the height of the Italian Baroque tradition. Equally beautiful is his elegant motet Nulla in mundo pax sincera, being performed by internationally renowned soprano, Nancy Argenta.
Rarely performed, the German composer Joseph Rheinberger’s Mass in C for chorus and soloist quartet is an intimate and Romantic setting of the liturgy. Included in the evening’s performance will be Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt’s most performed composition, Immortal Bach, his interpretation of a Bach chorale in a contemporary context, harnessing the power of more than 100 voices.
And a day without Mozart? No, the audience will be delighted to hear a familiar choral gem.
Sopranos Nancy Argenta and Emma Hannan, mezzo-soprano Maureen Ferguson, tenor Isaiah Bell and baritone Nicholas Allen will be featured as soloists for this inspiring evening of music.
