Event Description
Canada’s Jesse Cook, JUNO Award-winning master guitarist, composer and producer, is well-known for his intoxicating fusion of world music, having travelled the globe looking for sounds that resonate with him. Incorporating flamenco rumba, jazz, and other forms into his many albums, Cook is widely considered to be one of the most influential figures in the “nuevo flamenco” guitar style. On his albums, and in concert, Cook explores the roots of flamenco, and its many offshoots, from India to Spain, and on to Cuba and Latin America. He has released ten genre-defying albums, garnering eleven JUNO nominations – and one win, in 2001 for Free Fall – in the World Music and Instrumental categories. Among his many other awards, he is also a three-time winner of the Canadian Smooth Jazz award for Guitarist of the Year. PBS recently broadcasted Jesse Cook: Beyond Borders, the latest concert special by the acoustic guitar virtuoso, which was filmed over the 31 days of his coast-to-coast tour of Canada. He now brings Beyond Borders to the Royal Theatre in an epic, highly-anticipated Victoria reappearance.
