Event Description
“Macy Gray is back and better than ever” - Vogue Magazine
A gifted songwriter and dazzlingly singular singer with a distinctive raspy style, Macy Gray’s voice has drawn comparisons with Billy Holiday, Janis Joplin, and Tina Turner to name a few. Gray has released six studio albums and received five Grammy nominations, winning one in 2001 for her multi-platinum debut album On How Life Is. Her hit single, “I Try,” remains one of her best-known songs today. This multi-talented artist has appeared as an actor in a number of films, including ‘Training Day’, ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Scary Movie 3’, and ‘For Colored Girls’, amongst others. In 2016, Gray made a large artistic leap by changing labels to Chesky Records to create an audiophile album Stripped, her latest, which features Ari Hoenig, Russell Malone, Wallace Roney, and Daryl Johns. Performing with jazz bands is how she got her start, and it’s what Gray returns to in this collection of reimagined songs from her catalog, three new originals and two covers. This album successfully struck number three on the Billboard Jazz Chart. Gray was also recently featured in Ariana Grande’s song “Leave Me Lonely” from her third studio album Dangerous Woman. From jazz, to pop and R&B, to jazz again, Macy Gray continues to divulge her musical prowess with a unique, smoky voice that is unforgettable to the last note.
