Event Description
In a music world rife with technological tricks of the trade, one vital commodity is getting lost in the shuffle: the beauty of the human voice. Enter Naturally 7. Members Roger Thomas, Warren Thomas, Rod Eldridge, Napoleon Cummings, Dwight Stewart, Garfield Buckley, and Kelvin K. Mitchell have perfected an intriguing a cappella style they’ve branded as “Vocal Play” – singing as instruments. In a quest to celebrate the voice Naturally 7 not only sings but also creates every backing instrument heard on its songs. We’re talking drums, bass, guitars, horns, flutes . . . even down to turntables. With rich harmonies, an unbelievable ability to replicate instruments, and a stage presence that can be felt in every seat of the house, Naturally 7 charm fans wherever they perform. They have been touring with Michael Bublé since 2006. Their last performance at TD JazzFest in 2008 brought the house down, so we are excited to welcome them back touring their new album Hidden in Plain Sight.
“Naturally 7 convey the beatdriven swagger of hip hop, the freewheeling improv of jazz and the trenchant emotion of soul.” – The Arts Desk, UK
Opening Act: Kristine Helene
Calgary-born vocalist Kristina Helene is a relative newcomer to the B.C. jazz scene but has already made a big impression. Now a regular at the Hotel Grand Pacific and the Empress Hotel’s Bengal Lounge, with a unique voice and vibrant stage presence, she made her TD JazzFest debut in 2014. A songwriter as well as a singer, Kristina has a passion for classic jazz – her CD of standards is due out this year.
