Equally revered as a trombonist, pianist, composer and bandleader, Hugh Fraser is a musical performer of the highest order. A native Victorian with a truly international reach, Fraser has been making important music for over a quarter-century; whether it’s his many big band performances, his tributes to John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix, his many award-winning CDs or his extensive work in smaller formats, this is one musician who has never stood still. He has performed and recorded with Chucho Valdés, so it is appropriate that Fraser be sharing a stage with the Cuban master on the final night of JazzFest 2009. “The music (is) stately and studied, highly inventive . . . highly original.” – Down Beat
