Fresh from his recent sold out Vancouver date, Dallas Green returns for another set of vulnerable, gracefully melodic songs in the guise of City and Colour.
Best known as singer and guitarist in St. Catharines band Alexisonfire, Dallas is partly responsible for the acclaimed group’s sound of larynx-shredding screams and metallic riffs set to hardcore tempos. As City and Colour, however, Dallas indulges in a more thoughtful and introspective side that will come as a surprise to many of those familiar with his main project. On songs like the gently admonishing “Save Your Scissors” and the string-backed drama of “Casey’s Song” Green exhibits the kind of skilled songwriting and lyrical tenderness that recalls Jeff Buckley (an admitted influence).
Dallas has been performing his non-Alexis-style songs for some time, but it wasn’t until last year that he saw fit to release both an EP (The Death of Me) and platinum-selling full-length album (Sometimes). Those releases, as well as Dallas’ sold out club tour across Canada earlier this year, have established City and Colour as an important act on its own, and not just a side-project by a talented rocker.
