I'm Pema and I'll answer the questions I always get when I'm asked about this show...

Q: So what kind of house will you be spinning?
A: We don't play house and we don't play records. There are no turntables. We sometimes play dance music but this is not a dance club event. We focus on the kind of music we're into: weird electronic stuff, played live using actual instruments.

Q: So, are you mixing loops on your computer then?
A: for the most part, no. We use samples of drums and stuff, like a bang sound for the kickdrum and some noise for a snare, and we use sampled drum loops, but we don't sample other people's music and mix it. Most of the stuff we do is recording keyboard and drum parts on the spot, and messing around with them. It's an actual live show, more like a jazz improv jam than a band show or a DJ set.

Q: What kinda music do y'all listen to? What will your music remind me of?
A: My music is kinda like boards of canada, telefon tel aviv, these days more like Manitoba, my drum n bass lines always remind me of trans am and squarepusher.
Nathan is hugely into squarepusher, Aphex Twin, he got Plaid playing one of his songs on a radio set... his style is fucking crazy. Mike's drum lines always remind me of autechre and boards of canada, but it's more like aphex twin and muziq and funkstorung than anything else I know of. I'm not sure what Ryan or Jake's influences are but it's in the same kinda vein. Weirdo leftfield electronica.

This week we've got my oscilloscope set up with a TV so you can actually see the soundwaves we're making as we're making them. It looks dope. I'm gonna bring some old documentaries too so we'll have more of a visual element than ever.
