Event Description
. Friday, October 13th IMU & CiTR present FRIDAY the 13th w/ Nikki Hurst, The Flairs, The BTUs + This Week In History @ The RAILWAY CLUB, 579 Dunsmuir Street . Doors 8:30pm / $10
Join some of Vancouver's premier dark music artists as they cross a black cat's path while going under a ladder and collectively opening their umbrellas indoors, accidentally smashing a full length mirror in the process! Bring your wiccan ways and protective incense, and expect spooky, rockin' musical offerings!
NIKKI HURST - The Nikki Hurst Band blends elements of pop, nu rock and metal with a powerful image and sound that is gaining momentum on the local scene. Having crafted her vocals and songwriting skills in bands such as Superchild and The Vincent Black Shadow, Nikki's voice stretches the boundaries of soulful, sultry, powerful and sexy, backed by a rollercoaster of adrenaline-drenched music.
The FLAIRS are a 21st century band ready to take the world by storm with their catchy, hook-laden rock songs harkening back to the days of '80s metal and punk, sweetly flavoured with female harmonies and a whole-lotta attitude. Featuring former members of Tuuli and Bif Naked's band, they skillfully blend youthful spirit and undeniable talent to unleash a sound they can truly call their own on an unsuspecting public hungry for living, breathing, punk-coloured hard rock with smart pop sensibilities.
The BTUs - Guitars screaming with a candy apple locomotive covered in glittered whip-cream bearing down on your girlfriend! One BTU equals approximately 1.055 056 kilojoules... four BTUs equal a Rock'n'Roll nuclear explosion of dangerous '70s-flavoured rock'n'roll!
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY are a group of silver-tongued devils out to worm their way in to the proverbial undergarments of the music industry. Featuring members of Rakshasa and Burn Project, this A-Team delivers appealingly catchy songs created with unusual combinations of instruments and experimentation. Paired with the on-stage antics of a band let loose, this is what you wished you had found every time you've been disappointed at a live rock show... a REAL danger-fueled rock'n'roll show.
