Event Description
. Friday, October 13th IMU & CiTR present Desert Radio & Ghostrain Double CD Release Party w/ Dustin Bentall & The Truth + Cameron Latimer & The Bottle @ The MEDIA CLUB, 695 Cambie . 8pm / $10
Celebrate this special evening of Canadian Americana, Classic & Southern Rock with Desert Radio & friends as they debut their new album tonight!
DESERT RADIO's original combination of Americana, Classic & Southern Rock is the soundtrack of a road trip to Juarez in a '68 Dodge where Merle Haggard, The Who and Elvis Costello all play on the mix tape stuck in the dashboard deck. A few years ago, old friends Scott (Evil Roy Slade) and Patrick (Powerman 5000) were looking for an excuse to hang out, drink lots of beer and write some great, country-flavoured rock 'n' roll. One thing led to another and they soon found themselves playing shows and recording tracks with the help of friends Kevin (Anthill) and Judd (Rose Chronicles). "February Day" (from their soon-to-be released debut album) recently became the number one ranked Americana genre song in the history of garageband.com, leading to features on Budweiser.com as well as NASCAR's use of the track in a Speed Channel video tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. that was broadcast throughout North America. http://www.myspace.com/desertradio
DUSTIN BENTALL & THE TRUTH - Hailing from North Vancouver, Dustin has packed a lot of living into his two decades and intends to color the rest in without much concern for going over the lines. Playing alt-country songs influenced by the likes of Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Wilco, Dustin found the heart of that music and placed it under his own landscapes. With vocals that range from soft melodies to belt it out gravel blues, his songs speak of a bright eyed beginning and a final truth all at the same time. These are beautiful scars seen through bleary eyes that ring true with a wind blown integrity and an uncompromising lust for life. http://myspace.com/dustinbentall
CAMERON LATIMER & THE BOTTLE - One of the principal songwriters in The Seams, Cameron Latimer values great storytelling, burnishing tales of honest men with deft harmonies, emotive pedal steel, and fine jazz-guitar licks. With comtemporary influences ranging from Gram Parsons to Wilco to Lucinda Williams, Cameron tells a story that makes you taste the gin, see the smoke curl, and smell the sawdust. The singer-guitarist and his band (which includes Juno-award winner Steve Dawson of Zubot and Dawson on pedal steel, Steve Matheson, formerly of the Witness Protection Plan on bass, and exAlpha Ya Ya Diallo drummer Dave Moran) perform songs about gambling, prison, life on the road and missed connections, taking fans on a journey to places of love, loss, heartbreak and hard times. http://www.myspace.com/cameronlatimer
GHOSTRAIN - The solo project of Luke Gustafson (Magic Ass) is hitting Vancouver in support of his just completed second CD, "Let The Record Show". Picking up where "The 7th and Carolina Tapes" left off, Ghostrain's sophomore release is like that brief sober moment of a reckless, career-destroying, intoxicated joy ride in which you realize you've gone much too far to turn back. "A creative, stripped-down menagerie of blues, folk and funk for connoissuers of roots music." http://myspace.com/lukeghostrain
