Event Description
Self-doubt, depression, drug use and betrayal are just some of the themes found on the five records by Blue October. The Houston-based quintet draws on influences as varied as Joy Division, the Cure, Flaming Lips, Peter Gabriel and Pink Floyd for a post-grunge, new wave, guitar and violin-fueled epic sound-a sound that has attracted Universal Records (twice!) as well as legions of fans who relate to lead singer Justin Furstenfeld’s troubled lyrics.
The seven-year-old band’s latest release is Foiled, an album that ends with a glimmer of hope in its final two songs, the soulful “Everlasting Friend” and the sweeping love song “18th Floor Balcony”, which “bristles with neo-classical elegance”, according to amazon.com. Recently, Blue October returned to The Jimmy Kimmel Show for a second time to perform “What If We Could”, and the group has also performed on the Tonight Show and Late Night With David Letterman.
Blue October’s song “Calling You” from 2003’s History for Sale was featured on the American Wedding soundtrack, and the video for “Hate Me”, the first single from Foiled, made a huge splash on VH1. The band’s current major tour sees Blue October playing many North American cities for the first time.
