Sarah Harmer’s 2000 album You Were Here established the Kingston-based musician as one of the most insightful and talented singer/songwriters in the country. Her latest, I’m a Mountain, is rootsy and wonderful, full of traditionally oriented country and bluegrass numbers, including Dolly Parton’s “Will He Be Waiting for Me,” and a couple of songs that reflect the singer’s activist side. The reviews for her most recent shows have praised Harmer and her band’s low-key arrangements of acoustic guitar, upright bass and piano, with smatterings of violin, mandolin, banjo and clarinet. The lengthy sets have included songs from all four of her albums plus some unexpected covers, including songs by indie-popsters the Shins, leaving fans satisfied and, to borrow a word from one of Sarah’s new songs, “aglow.” Don’t miss your chance to see Sarah Harmer when she returns to Vancouver.
