Event Description

Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church proudly presents the Blue Note Repertory All-Stars!

Tuesday, September 17th

Drummer/band-leader Kelby MacNayr assembles five of the West Coast's finest improvisers to breathe life into the classic jazz sounds of the 1950'and 60's Blue Note jazz era!

With the goal to bring-back-to-the-bandstand the toe-tapping, swinging, story-telling traditions of Blue Note Records artists, this band sizzles celebrating the work of Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Duke Pearson and MORE!

In a concert that celebrates not only the compositional genius and aesthetic of the time, but that honour the true spirit and essence of Jazz- the authenticity of creative spirit, innovation and collective experience. This concert brings together a wealth of musical materials, histories and musical personalities.

Featuring an all-star quintet including Cuban trumpet virtuoso Miguelito Valdez, saxophonist Roy Styffe, pianist Dr. Tony Genge, bassist Peter Dowse and drummer Kelby MacNayr.

Roy Styffe has been at the forefront of Canadian jazz saxophone for over 30 years, a lyrical improviser akin to the melodicism of Paul Desmond and the playfulness of cannonball Adderley with the depth of John Coltrane!

Cuban trumpeter Miguelito Vades came to fame touring the world with the Buena Vista Social Club, the Afro-Cuban All-Stars and more! Based now on Canada's West Coast Miguelito is a favourite of fans of Tuesday Night Jazz and beyond.

Pianist Dr. Tony Genge has been a mainstay of the Canadian jazz scene, teaching, performing and composing at the highest level for over 30 years with everyone from Roberta Gambarini to Jeff Hamilton, Russ Botten, Neil Swainson and MORE!

Left-handed electric bass player Peter Dowse brings his penchant for a groove and collaboration to the fore in this dynamic rhythm section and long time musical partnership.

Drummer Kelby MacNayr has made a name for himself performing across North America with the likes of George Colligan, Louise Rose, John Clayton, Ian McDougall and more! A celebrated drummer in all styles and highly regarded composer and band-leader, MacNayr treasures most the connection of the spirit of the music between the performers and the audience.
