Event Description
Bill Coleman (dance/movement and improvised music)
A chance to experience a new work from one of our favourite improvisational dancers! See how Bill Coleman makes use of our waterfront patio as a stage.
Bill Coleman has danced with companies such as Toronto Dance Theatre and The Martha Graham Dance Company, and his own choreography has included, among many others: “Zorro”, a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee; “Baryshnikov: The Other Story”, recipient of the Jerome Foundation’s First Light Award in New York; “Convoy PQ-17”, which debuted in St. Petersburg, Russia; “Heartland”, which inspired an award-winning documentary; “Hymn to the Universe”, featuring the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra; “Dollhouse” – nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore Awards and shortlisted for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s Total Theatre Award; “FELT”, performed on a circular felt rug handwoven in Mongolia; and, at the Shaw Festival, “Sunday in the Park with George” and “The Women”. He’s currently working with Makka Kleist, Greenlandic actor and director, as well as presenting “Le Flâneur”, a roaming tap dance performance. He has created site-specific events in collaboration with world-renowned artists and communities from Saskatchewan to Mongolia, was co-founder of CLC and the Citadel, teaches at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, and has developed a methodology involving heightened sensory awareness and involuntary movement. Coleman is the recipient of the Canada Council Jacqueline Lemieux Prize and the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts.
