Event Description
Many of us have magical and nostalgic memories of times spent at The Lake. It could be any lake. An enduring relationship with this time and space.
I’ve been fortunate to live on a lake for the past 13 years and having spent this much time so close to nature one becomes a part of the eco system. ...the migration of geese, blackbird song, treefrog chorus, the daily routine of beavers, eagles, and more. Seeing the patterns in the seasons, dark and light, there is a rhythm of time, wind, rain and sun moving the landscape. As the sun hits the horizon, it all fades into grey, then awakens at dawn to pink and light blue, dancing sunlight on the water and reflections to take your breath away. The day becomes a myriad of hues, deep, mysterious yet calm, contemplative. Colour, movement, mists, silence, sunrise, sunset, Year in, year out. This is where I have lived.
The Lake has been my muse. These paintings are a culmination of my time here, and an evolution of different mediums and styles I have developed over these years as an artist. The summertime paintings are primarily in oil, conveying the richness of sun-drenched days, while autumn and winter, I’ve begun with charcoal and built layers of texture and acrylic washes to express the ethereal moods of the season.
This series is more about the feelings evoked, rather than where it is. An enduring relationship with The Lake.
