Grand OnStage Presents: Jake Shimabukuro
Internationally known for his fast and complex finger work on the ukulele
7:30pm
$7.50 - $44.50 plus HST and handling fee
Event Description
Known for his fast and complex finger work and lauded as a musical “hero” by Rolling Stone, ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro is redefining the instrument. With accolades from the disparate likes of Eddie Vedder, Perez Hilton, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, it is no surprise that Shimabukuro wows television audiences, earns comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, and has played in front of Queen Elizabeth II.
Internationally known for the YouTube video of his rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” which went viral in 2006, the Hawaiian musician’s 2011 album, Peace Love Ukelele, reached #1 on Billboard's Top World Albums in both 2011 and 2012. His latest album, Grand Ukelele, is a collaboration with legendary producer Alan Parsons, best known for his work on Pink Floy'd Dark Side of the Moon, The Beatles' Abbey Road, and his own highly successful solo project.
The Four Strings Foundation, founded by Shimabukuro in 2013, is dedicated to creating music education workshops including providing ukuleles and training tools to schools and music teachers and lobbies to increase music education. The organization’s mandate is in keeping with Shimabukuro’s own life philosophy: “strive to be the best, live drug free, and have fun.”
