Slide guitar songstress, roots & blues from Victoria BC
Event Description
Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; Everyone welcome jam 6:45pm, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers Sue Decker and Gavin Hodgins at 9pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door
Ever since learning to play guitar in a bluegrass jam at the age of thirty-five, Sue Decker has been discovering her truth in song. With a unique capacity for pairing meaningful and topical lyrics with ear-catching melodies, Sue’s rich, warm voice, distinctive slide guitar playing, and authentic songwriting make for a powerful combination!
These days Sue’s music inhabits the borderlands where blues, folk, country, and soul meet. She will be joined tonight by Gavin Hodgins on mandolin and guitar for a VFMS feature set celebrating the March release of her second album, ‘Keeping Time’. Recorded in Nashville with sought-after roots producer Steve Dawson, the album features Sue’s dynamic vocals backed with killer playing by Steve on guitars and pedal steel, Dave Jacques on bass, and Justin Amaral on drums.
“The comparisons she draws with the great Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt are far from misplaced…brilliant, not to be missed at any cost!” ~ Paris Moves
