Event Description
Minding This Human Life; chance echoes of our human experience
Solo exhibition of abstract acrylic and collage art by Arlene Dubo
Victoria, BC, September 27, 2023 – Gage Gallery Arts Collective is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of new works by Arlene Dubo titled ‘Minding This Human Life’. It features twenty-four works of abstract art in acrylic and collage. An opening reception will take place on October 5th from 5-7pm at Gage Gallery, 19 Bastion Square (between Langly and Warf St.) in downtown Victoria, BC. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11am until 5pm.
The paintings in this collection indirectly translate life experiences through the process of abstraction. Her works take the ordinary and render them interesting and symbolic to the viewer. The work is an act of coming to honesty with self and the process of artmaking. Arlene says what she experiences in life gets inevitably expressed in her paintings. “I hope the exhibition tells a story of inner life. I hope visitors will discover humour, wonder, and inspiration,” she says.
After she started incorporating meditation as a significant facet of her life, Arlene learned that the mindfulness practice is an essential part of art practice. “Mindfulness meditation practice influences all aspects of my life, including painting. It’s present in the process of making art, and I see its influence when it comes to naming the work. This imperfect human is not always mindful; but when I am, I’m the happiest.”
Come meet the artist and find out more about the works and her process through the solo show ‘Minding This Human Life’ at the opening reception on Thursday, Oct 5th, from 5-7pm. All are welcome. Admission is free.
