Event Description
The duo of François Houle (clarinet - Victoria) & Marco von Orelli(Cornet - Basel, Switzerland) stop in Victoria in support of their ezz-thetics/Hat Hut release Make That Flight, before making that flight to Toronto and Guelph.
Inspired by the great tandems in the history of creative music, such as Carter and Bradford, Coleman and Cherry, the duo music of François Houle and Marco Von Orelli pushes the boundaries between styles, genres, and aesthetics to Forge a unique repertoire that will surprise any avid listener of jazz and new music. Houle and Von Orelli are recognized masters of their instruments, and bring to the table a vast amount of expertise as band leaders, composers, and practitioners of creative avant-garde music.

Phil Albert (bass - Victoria) and Shane Krause (bass clarinet and baritone saxophone - Victoria) have been playing together since Phil relocated to Victoria from Toronto in the early days of the pandemic.
Bassist Phil Albert has released ten records as a leader/co-leader, played on hundreds more, and recently completed a doctoral degree in performance. He has performed professionally with a variety of influential improvisers including Mike Stern, Okkyung Lee, Mark O’Conner, Terry Clark, Mike Murley, Rafael Zaldivar, Tony Wilson, and Gord Grdina.
Shane is a saxophonist and clarinetist whose music primarily operates in the areas of free improvisation and free jazz. Shane has recorded with improvisers and indie rock musicians including Mats Gustafsson, Chris Dadge, They Shoot Horses, and Secret Mommy.
