ABOUT THE SERIES
For newcomers and aficionados alike, the Sunday Chamber Music Series presents casual afternoons of engaging and informative classical masterworks for small ensembles performed by some of the finest classical musicians in Canada and beyond.
This season’ series presents astounding works of genius from the very young, music written by child prodigies and child prodigies who grew into even more astonishing adult composers.
Curated by violinist David Gillham, the series celebrates a rich kaleidoscope of young genius, culminating with one of the most exciting young string quartets on the world stage today.
The Music of Youth is, ultimately, the music of hope.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
Though we may not think of J.S Bach as a ‘child’ prodigy, his musical output and influence on western classical music, coupled with the fact that he fathered 20 children, is indeed prodigious.
Bach’s timeless music has inspired and been appropriated by musicians as diverse as Lady Gaga, The Beach Boys and The Beatles, to Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, among others.
In a career spanning more than five decades, and a discography that ranks among the largest of any Canadian pianist in history, internationally renowned concert pianist Robert Silverman pulls up the bench to the prestigious Grotrian-Steinweg piano at The ACT, an instrument Silverman himself once owned, to perform with acclaimed violinist David Gillham the music that is the foundation of his musical inspiration.
