Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers The Old Growth Band at 9pm, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash, Everyone welcome!
In our local woodlands, “old growth” refers to the senior trees which act as hubs to support the younger trees by sharing resources and information via an amazing underground network. Together, Andy Ruszel and Mike Sadava have the breadth of experience that makes The Old Growth Band an absolutely appropriate name for this outstanding duo!
Lead singer/guitarist Andy has played in a variety of West Coast bands, including Cowichan Valley favorites ‘Seadog’, ‘Nanaimo Sweethearts’, ‘Jellyroll’ and the very humorous ‘Andrews and Lawrence’’ while Mike on mandolin and guitar has himself played in more bands than he can remember, performing in some of the top clubs and festivals throughout western Canada.
Old Growth’s roots in Canadian and Vancouver Island traditions run deep. Their repertoire of original west coast compositions reflect life with sincerity and humour. From melancholy reflections on life in the 21st century to humorous songs about aging and canoes, The Old Growth Band is sure to make you laugh, cry, swing, and then sing along!
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
