Faculty Concert Series featuring
Merrie Klazek, trumpet
With guest, Heather Burns, piano

From Elsa to Eva, Belle to Maria, join UVic School of Music trumpet professor Merrie Klazek ​and pianist Heather Burns for this engaging exploration of music and messages about wonderful female protagonists in musical theatre.

This will be a 90-minute, no intermission concert suitable for all ages.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

MERRIE KLAZEK is a versatile and respected trumpet artist in performance and education. Merrie joined the full-time faculty at UVic in 2016. She holds a BMus from her native Calgary and an MMus from Northwestern University where she studied with the late Vincent Cichowicz. Her musical travels have taken her around the globe with performance highlights including Spoleto Festival Italy, Musik Contemporaire Strasbourg France, Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan Hall, Stratford Festival, Hungary’s Niyrbator Festival, and more. Merrie played Principal trumpet with the Thunder Bay Symphony from 1999-2018 and has held the same position with Victoria Symphony and Orchestra London Canada. She is an endorsing artist for Wedge Mouthpieces, Bach Trumpets/Conn-Selmer, and Robinson’s Remedies.

Victoria-based, free-lance musician HEATHER BURNS teaches and performs locally and abroad. Her performing career as a pianist has taken her through Europe, the US, and Canada. She has also done extensive work as a musician and music director in the theatre world with companies such as the Chemainus Theatre, Victoria Operatic Society, and Kaleidoscope Theatre. Recent productions include Spring Awakenings, Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, and Cabaret. Heather is the Director of Education and Programming at the Canadian College of Performing Arts.

Tickets can be purchased by phone (250-721-8000) through the Phoenix Theatre Box Office and at the door.
Advanced tickets are recommended.
School of Music students receive complimentary admission. Tickets available at the door 1 hour prior to concert start time, subject to availability.

This concert will be available as a live stream.
