Event Description
Already being hailed as the next Woody Guthrie, Nashville-based Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. A former drum major and classically-trained clarinetist turned folk singer, Matthews uses her voice to answer Dr. Martin Luther King's call to be "a drum major for justice”.
The title track of her latest album “Changemakers” won Song of the Year at the 2022 International Folk Music Awards. Matthews is also the 2017 International NewSong Singer-Songwriter Competition Grand Prize winner. As part of her prize, she recorded the six-track album These Old Hands, released on October 11, 2019 in celebration of National Coming Out Day, a significant date for the queer activist artist.
A powerful lyricist whose songs of compassionate dissent reflect her lived experience as what she lightheartedly calls "the poster-child for intersectionality," Crys Matthews's thoughtful, realistic and emotional songs speak to the voice of our generation and remind us why music indeed soothes the soul.
Don’t miss this opportunity to catch Crys Matthews on one of her only Canadian dates on her western US tour.
