Event Description
Southern Vancouver Island is home to an astonishing number of Canada’s writers, and it has been for many decades. The list of names reads like an introductory course to Canadian literature: Alice Munro, P.K. Page, Al Purdy, Dorothy Livesay, Phyllis Webb, and Patrick Lane, to name but a few of the early figures on the scene. Since their day, the syllabus has broadened and deepened in diversity. Tonight’s event shines a light on four recent additions to this roster—Ali Blythe, Danielle Geller, Neil Griffin, and Yasuko Thanh—whose explorations in poetry, memoir, fiction, and essays are earning them recognition and well-deserved praise in Canada’s writing world. They have agreed to join this evening’s panel to share excerpts of what they have been working on recently and to discuss their process, their sources of inspiration, and their challenges.
