Join Orca books and local artist Aimée van Drimmelen to launch new book hot off the presses, "The Late, Great Endlings" by children's author Deborah Kerbel. Endlings are the last known animal of a species before it goes extinct, and the book pays poetic tribute to seven such creatures. Fans of ink and watercolour will appreciate the detailed portraits, created in part using natural home made inks.
"Some of these animals disappeared a long time ago, and there is very little documentation save for a grainy black and white photo, or a weird stuffed specimen in a museum. It was a cool experience to bring these creatures back to life in a way, and show them alive and stoic, with a twinkle in their eyes and a shine on their feathers."
The artist will have early sketches, original paintings and other process work on display at the launch. Books will be available for sale directly from Orca.
The launch is part of a larger building-wide open studios event that goes until 8pm. Beer and wine will be available for sale with all proceeds go to the Ministry of Casual Living.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
