The Rogue Folk Club celebrates Persian New Year Norooz ("New Day")" as part of our Heritage Series concerts with Vashaan and Qalandar.
Gathering together some of the finest classically trained Persian musicians in Canada, the Vashaan Ensemble draws upon Iran’s rich musical past to perform joyful and memorable Persian traditional songs. The Vashaan Ensemble was formed in 2011 as a project to explore and present forms of Iranian music that have rarely been heard in North America.
Members of Vashaan performing are:
Ali Razmi – setar and voice
Reza Honari – kamanche
Fathieh Honari – vocalist
Vashann will be joined by Juno-award winner oud/guitarist Gordon Grdina and Kenton Loewen on percussion.
Qalandar melds traditional Persian music with free improvisation. The group performs traditional pieces as well as contemporary compositions. The music is virtuosic and imbued with fire yet the aesthetic is quite delicate and lyrically moving.
Qalandar is fronted by oud/guitarist Gordon Grdina.
This concert is made possible through funding from Canadian Heritage.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
