Event Description

On the 27th article of the Declaration of Human Rights, it is stated that “Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.” Inspired by this and to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health, The Belfry Theatre, the Bateman Foundation, the Support Network for Indigenous Women & Women of Colour (SNIWWOC) and Raino Dance have come together to celebrate the intersections between the Arts and health.
We seek to share community resources to enhance mental health through creative and arts engagement and to reflect about the linkages of mental health and the arts.
On December 10th, we celebrate the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.
On this day we wish to focus on the Declaration’s article 27: “Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.”
We have the right to consider.
We have the right to create.
We have the right to change.
We have the right to connect.
We have the right to celebrate!
Much like our first event in October, with expressive arts, silent dance and embodied mark making in large canvas, this event will have dance and visual arts. But for the second edition we will incorporate the spoken word and we will have a few guests reciting poems, telling stories, and many other art forms that can lift our spirits and celebrate how arts and culture are a human right!

We will provide drinks and light snacks, and the event is kids friendly, bring your friends and family to celebrate together! COVID protocols will be in place and we will request vaccine passports upon entry. We recommend participants wear clothes that enable movement, and join us to enjoy the experience.

The event is in collaboration with The Belfry Theatre, Support Network for Indigenous Women & Women of Colour (SNIWWOC) and Raino Dance.
Sponsored by: Party Brazil Events, Fol Epi, Bear and Joey and the Mustard Seed church.
