Event Description
Dead Man’s Cell Phone begins with an ending: Gordon’s cell phone is ringing incessantly in a café, but he will no longer be able to pick it up, as he died over his lentil soup. Nearby, Jean’s inclination to answer it launches her into the personal lives of Gordon’s family.
This sometimes-otherworldly odyssey becomes a wake-up call, forcing Jean to realize that life is for the living. Beautiful and simply unexpected, Sarah Ruhl's quirky comedy delights as much as it provokes us to reconsider how technology connects and isolates us. According to the New York Times, it’s a "beguiling new comedy” that “blends the mundane and the metaphysical, the blunt and the obscure, the patently bizarre and the bizarrely moving. [Ruhl’s] surrealist fantasies are made meaningful – made truthful – by the deeper logic of human feeling.”
Dead Man's Cell Phone runs from November 11-27, with previews on November 9 and 10. Livestream performances will also be offered on November 19 & 26 at 7 pm, and November 20 & 27 at 3 pm. Suitable for ages 13+.
