Castles: Assal Karimi Izadi

Iranian by birth, Assal grew up in Belgium where she achieved her BA in Tourism and has since worked and traveled throughout Europe, Oceania, Africa and North America. Influenced by her Persian and Belgian background, Assal’s work focuses on painting with an emphasis on her memories of all the places she’s lived. Castle reflects the Gravensteen in Ghent in Belgium where Assal worked. By adding Persian patterns to this fortress she symbolises her double Iranian-Belgian identity.
