Event Description

The Bateman Foundation are taking their Nature Sketch program online for winter, meaning their celebrated combination of art instruction and nature-study is now available no matter where you live! This increased accessibility is a small silver lining of this strange 2020 landscape, and the instructors have designed a special Canada-wide program to accommodate a broader audience.

Nature Sketch is an online art program that explores the changing seasons through sketching or watercolour. Inspired by the philosophies and artistic practices of renowned artist and environmentalist Robert Bateman, the curriculum combines art instruction with nature-study that will supplement your own adventures outdoors. This Canada-wide course will make general observations about the changing seasons, how to identify the plants and animals we see, and discuss broader environmental themes.

One thing we have certainly come to appreciate this year is the value of the natural world. Nature Sketch was created to foster deep and abiding connections with nature, offering a cultural lens to explore the world around us.

Classes start in January, 2021, with three programs to choose from: a sketching class at both junior and adult/teen levels, and a watercolour class suitable for adults. All classes are online so it's completely COVID-safe, and the ticket cost is per household, so it's a great activity for bubbles who are bored of Netflix.

Another brand new 2020 feature is the option to purchase a gift certificate for any one of these programs, making a unique Christmas present for the budding artist in your life!

About the Bateman Foundation:
The Bateman Foundation, a national charity, is currently one of the only non-profits in Canada primarily using artwork to promote a connection to nature.
