An afternoon of pure delight
Laudate Singers heralds the Christmas season with a grand afternoon of sumptuous French Baroque music. Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noël is a Midnight Mass for Christmas with a delightful use of French Christmas carols. His regal Te Deum (H.146) is brilliant! Its prelude became particularly well known after it became the theme song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Jean-Joseph Mouret's collection of fanfares, Premiere Suite de Symphonies, includes the theme of Masterpiece Theatre.
Both Mouret and Charpentier were popular in 17th century France and then almost forgotten until being rediscovered in the 20th century. Their music is a gift to us of beauty and exhilaration.
The Singers will be joined by an exceptional group of instrumentalists chosen for their deep understanding and love of early music. We welcome Marea Chernoff and Rodney Sharman (recorders), Nancy DiNovo, Andrea Siradze, Sarah Kwok, Heather Hay and Anne Duranceau (strings), Mark D'Angelo (trumpet), Phillip Crewe (timpani), and Michael Molnar (organ/harpsichord).
A sweet reception gives you time to mingle with the musicians at intermission.
