Event Description

Ambient music has a long history going back decades, even before Brian Eno coined the term. Victoria BC has shared in that legacy going back at least 25 years, and we are proud to present three artists, originally from Victoria, who made significant contributions to the development of a local and regional ambient music scene during the 1990s, and are still active as producers, DJs and event promoters in Vancouver.

BINHEX - aka Nicole Goodman

HASSELHOFF - aka Quentin Rogers

Quentin and Nicole are best known for opening Victoria's first dedicated electronic music retail outlet, Temple of Sound, in June 1994. Prior to the shop, however, they had already hosted ambient events in February of that year, and continued with a residency at Java Coffeehouse called Gravity. Quentin and Nicole moved to Vancouver in 1995, and have continued to DJ, produce, and host ambient music events to this day.

SABRINA DZUGALO

Sabrina Dzugalo is a producer, sound engineer, and DJ. She continued running the ambient music weekly at Java, while also producing her own radio show on CFUV and DJ’ing techno throughout the island and lower mainland. Sabrina moved to Toronto in 1998 to study audio engineering at the Harris Institute, returning to BC in the mid-2000s. You can find her tracks on Woodwork Recordings, ADSR Collective, Coldwave Records, and Urban Arts Berlin.
