FEATURING:
MISS MAGPIE
Miss Magpie is the moniker of singer/songwriter Megan Adair, based in Victoria, BC, Canada. Her style could be described as dark folk intermixed with spoken word and hiphop sensibilities.
A constant state of experiment into the darker side of alt folk music, Magpie plays in the thin veil between startlingly powerful and unique vocals, conscious hip-hop lyricism, the soul of a riverside folk band, and the aid of her guitar along with a variety of other revolving players. For this show Miss Magpie, in celebration of her birthday, will be joined with a full band to bring her dark dreams to life for one last time this year, including Meghan McKillop on percussion, Finn Letourneau on fiddle and Gabe Pinchbeck on bass and Dustan Townsend on cello.
AND
FANFARE
Cam Boyce has worn many hats, quite literally and figuratively, for fashion AND for the pursuit of musical fruit. He has been a part of countless bands ranging from metal, punk, funk, folk, country and jazz and has been in front of them as well as behind. Most recently, he has taken to travelling to Eastern countries in order to learn more about the strange yet alluring folk songs. His solo creation Fanfare is a culmination of all of these 37 years of musical exploration. Its a unique solo act, looping both guitar and violin alongside deep soulful vocals and fresh beatbox beats. The style definitely leans somewhere between Otis Redding, Owen Pallett and klezmer. Each show has a flair of uniqueness owing to much room for improvisation and use of transitions between songs. These days the focus is on getting the dance party going while pulling from seemingly far off inspirations/styles.
