Event Description
Prince Edward Island's Barachois brings a party to the stage with their traditional Acadian songs, lively fiddle music, step dancing and stage antics.
Their songs were brought over from France with some of the first settlers in North America, and have been infused with other influences, including the Scottish and Irish fiddling styles. Although this music has been called roots, neo-traditional, celtic, world music, Acadian, even children's music, it all evolves from a style of music kept alive for 300 years in a tiny French enclave in Prince Edward Island.
With top-notch musicianship and high-voltage humour, Barachois has brought this music to the world through two CDs and many international tours.
Barachois: Acadian word for shallow pools of water separated from the sea by sand dunes.
This Canadian family quartet combines the energy of the maritime fiddle traditions with the songs and rhythms of French Creole. Based on the music of Prince Edward Island, Barachois produce an extremely entertaining mix of songs and tunes which is irresistibly uplifting.
Irish Music Magazine
The night's biggest surprise was Barachois, an Acadian quartet from Prince Edward Island that combined French lyrics, vivacious drive, daffy wit and a theatrical flair...
