Event Description
Widely acclaimed as one of Germanys most exciting quartets, the Petersen Quartet was founded in 1979 by students at the Hanns Eisler Musikhochschule in (former East) Berlin. Its members went on to occupy principal positions in leading orchestras in Berlin and Leipzig. Since then the Petersen Quartet has won many international prizes and has performed in North America and every major city across Europe.
They have 16 CDs to their credit (Capriccio label), featuring chamber works of Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Schumann, Grieg, Boris Blacher, and Erwin Schulhoff .
The Quartet, comprising Conrad Muck, violin, Daniel Bell, violin, Friedemann Weigle, viola, and Jonas Krejci, cello, will perform string quartets by Beethoven and Ravel. They will also play contemporary composer Thomas Oboe Lees Morango almost a tango with dancers Judith Wong, Lynndsey Larre and Raechel Marchand.
There are some very fine young string quartets around these days, but I have heard none finer than the Petersen Quartet.

A common vision that reached perfection....what can you say other than that they are exceptional?
-- Le Soir, Paris
The four musicians... possess a formidable suite of gifts. These include a lyrical sound, sensitivity to musical subtleties, an instinct for drama and... a flair for programming high-quality music.
