Event Description

MORGAN JAMES: “This woman is on fire.” – NEW YORK TIMES

A veteran performer with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox since 2014, Morgan James recently embarked on her solo career. Widely acclaimed for her electrifying turns in the Broadway sensation Motown: The Musical and Jesus Christ Superstar, this vocalist studied opera at the Juilliard School in New York City before pursuing a career in musical theatre and nightclubs. A phenomenal talent with a deep and genuine feel for classic soul music, James is also a gifted songwriter. Reckless Abandon, her first recording of all-original material, dropped last year and proved to be a hit with both critics and the public. If Prince and Bonnie Raitt had a love child that worshipped Aretha Franklin, that would be the soul singer that is Morgan James. Doug Wamble guitar, Brian Charette keyboards, Derrick Phillips drums

JAMISON ROSS: “Honesty is at the heart of Ross’ music, which is often simple yet profound, graceful yet grooving, much like the drummer himself.” – DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE

After winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition at age 25 and releasing two titles under the Concord Jazz Label, you’d think that phenomenally skilled drummer Jamison Ross was destined to make his mark on the jazz world from behind a drum kit. As it turns out, Ross was a skilled vocalist before he was ever a drummer, having sung in his grandfather’s church. And Ross’s debut album, 2015’s Jamison, showcased both his percussive and singing abilities with a selection of gospel and R&B inflected jazz compositions that wowed critics and earned a Grammy nod. His follow up CD All For One, released in January 2018, was even better, with Ross clearly absorbing the musicality of his newly adopted home of New Orleans. Praised by one critic for having “the vocal chops of Donny Hathaway and the intuitive musicality of Stevie Wonder,” Ross is a fresh and dazzling talent. This guy’s on fire! Chris Pattishall piano, Max Moran bass, Cory Irvin organ, Rick Lollar guitar
