Event Description
The Planet Earth Poetry reading series is a launching pad for the energies of writers and poets established and not. The evening begins at 7:30 with an open mic, followed by featured readers. Between 7 and 7:15, put your name in the hat to read at open mic.
Our 22nd season starts up again January 12th at Hillside Coffee & Tea with a special event. We are celebrating our 10th year at Hillside Coffee & Tea that night with a bit of a party, a few thank you speeches, some trays of goodies and two excellent local poets – Christine Walde and Patricia Young. The open mic will be a little shorter to allow for the festivities.
Patricia Young has published eleven collections of poetry and one of short fiction. Her poems have been widely anthologized and she has received numerous awards for her writing, including the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, the BC Book Prize, the Pat Lowther Memorial Award, a CBC Literary Prize, several National Magazine Awards, Arc’s Poem of the Year Award and the Confederation Poets Prize. Tonight she is launching her chapbook of 13 prose poems from Baseline Press, “Consider the Paragliders.”
Christine Walde is a writer, artist and librarian whose work combines library and archival research with interests in experimental prose, poetry, visual poetry, performance, and the visual arts. She lives and works in Victoria. She reads from her book
