Event Description
The Planet Earth Poetry reading series is a launching pad for the energies of writers and poets established and not. The evening begins at 7:30 with an open mic, followed by featured readers. Between 7 and 7:15, put your name in the hat to read at open mic.
Chris Gudgeon is an author and poet and screenwriter. He’s contributed to dozens of periodicals – including Playboy, MAD, National Lampoon, Geist, Event and Malahat Review — and written seventeen books, from critically acclaimed fiction, to celebrated biographies, to a range of popular history. He also has more than 150 professional TV and film credits. Raw and immediate, Gudgeon's first book of poetry, Assdeep in Wonder, explores themes of addiction, sexuality, loss, love, and wonder in equal measures
Sheila Rosen’s book Silence, the Breaking Of It, explores her childhood among the interned Japanese in small-town B.C.This remarkable volume of poetry explores layers of regional history and human experience through a trilogy of finely crafted sequences. The poems fling the reader deeply into the mystical and cosmological without losing touch with the everyday, the place where “some great flammable heart” always wants us to see “possibility, ever imagining.” Just when we think reality is closing down, the poet offers us another “this/ or this.”
