Edie Daponte presents Under Paris Skies – La Musique d’Edith Piaf; music and entertainment inspired by Paris.
Edie and her 4 piece band will perform many of the French cabaret singer’s - widely regarded as France's national chanteuse - soulful and emotional numbers. Non Je Ne Regrette Rien; La Vie en Rose; Milord; Sous le Ciel de Paris and many more, interwoven with Edie’s engaging style of audience-interaction, and interpretation of the French numbers. She’ll also be mixing in some of Edith Piaf’s English songs and a few more that fit alongside Piaf’s oeuvre – inspired by a recent trip to Paris.
Channelling Piaf, with her rich timbre and captivating stage presence, Edie aims for a completely authentic experience and her experienced band will help create the atmosphere of an intimate Parisian theatre. Joining Edie are long-time collaborator Joey Smith on bass, and local favourites Karel Roessingh on piano, Jonathan Eng on drums and filling the important role of accordionist, Aaron Watson. All these talented musicians have long careers in the Vancouver Island jazz scene.
Under Paris Skies will be a unique show allowing a larger audience to enjoy Edie’s expressive performance in Sidney’s beautiful Charlie White Theatre. Come along and feel yourself sink under the spell of the Parisian streets and the sounds they inspire.
Edie et sa bande de 4 musiciens interpréteront de nombreuses chansons de la chanteuse de cabaret partout considérée comme vedette nationale- des chansons sentimentales et pleines d'emotions....sous le ciel de Paris et beaucoup d'autres dont l'interpretation d'Edie reflète bien le style de la chanson française. Elle y ajoutera quelques chansons d'Edith en anglais et quelques autres qui se rapprochent de l'oeuvre d'Edith - choix inspire par son recent voyage a Paris. S'inspirant du timbre riche de Piaf et de sa presence captivante sur scene, Edie s'efforce de recréer avec l'experience de son groupe l'atmosphere intime d'un cabaret parisien. Se joignent a Edie son collaborateur de longue date Joey Smith a la basse et les artistes locaux Karel Roessingh au piano, Jonathan Eng a la batterie et le role important de l'accordéoniste confie a Aaron Watson. Tous ces musiciens de talent ont une longue carrière sur la scene de jazz de VI. Under Paris Skies sera un spectacle unique permettant a un public plus large d'apprécier la performance d'Edie dans le superbe Charlie white theatre.Venez et laissez vous transporter sous le charme des rues parisiennes et les airs qu'elles inspirent.
