The 2017 Friends of Dominion Astrophysical Observatory Society (FDAO) “Earth and Friends” fundraiser marks our second year of raising funds for astronomy and science education on Southern Vancouver Island.
Join Vox Humana and science journalist Bob McDonald for a night of music, refreshments, appetizers, mingling and education as we kick off the run up to the centennial year of the Observatory.
With a silent auction rounding out the evening to help raise funds for public education at the observatory, this will be a one of a kind event.
At 99 years old, the Observatory still serves as a research facility for exploration of the cosmos, and the Centre of the Universe building is home for many science outreach events including Star Parties hosted by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and volunteer events run by the Friends of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory.
The FDAO is a non-profit BC-registered Society based in Victoria, B.C. dedicated to showing community support for the DAO. We aim to revitalize public programming and science outreach at the Centre of the Universe Building and the Observatory.
As one of the most stunning locations in Victoria, the Observatory sits on Little Saanich Mountain with a view over the city and out to the ocean and the Olympic Mountain Range, the evening promises be an extraordinary way to spend this Earth Day.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
