Two years ago, two musical lovebirds put on a concert to help fund their dream vacation to New Orleans to experience firsthand the incredible music and culture of Jazz’s first city. Their memorable trip has led to new music to explore, new collaborations, an even greater appreciation for the extraordinary musicians who live there and the inspiration for Victoria’s first New Orleans Style Brass Band.
On Saturday, April 8, vocalist Shanna Dance and saxophonist Jonnie Bridgman will be hosting the sequel to this concert alongside some of Victoria’s finest musicians at Hermann’s Jazz Club. The night will feature a wide range of music ranging from Dixieland to soulful R&B and Funk. The concert will also feature Jonnie’s newest project, the Jonnie 5 Brass Band. Probably the only band of it’s kind on the island, the Jonnie 5 bring a high-energy brass and percussion powered sound inspired by the great tradition of New Orleans brass bands such as the Dirty Dozen, Hot 8 and Rebirth brass bands. Throughout the night you will hear the music of Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, John Boutte, Jon Cleary, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty and more!
