Event Description
In the forests of northern Colombia lies the village of Tamaquito where easy living is still a real thing. It's a place where nature still provides the Wayúu people with everything they need to get by and be happy. People still hunt, forage and ranch as they have for generations.
But next door to the Wayúu's heaven on earth is El Cerrejón, the world’s largest open-cast coal mine. It runs over 700 square kilometers in size and it also runs power generators the world over. With each and every truckload, the pit gets a bit bigger and closer to Tamaquito.
Jairo Fuentes wants to save his home of Tamaquito and fight the forced displacement which has already swept away other nearby villages. The companies behind the pit promise the villagers new more comfortable lives, but the Wayúu people place no value on modern convenience. However, they keep the dialogue going in hopes of finding a common ground peacefully.
The Good Life is an inspiring story of a people trying to maintain their place in a global society that may have forgotten where its own happiness lies.
