Event Description
Cari Burdett, along with acclaimed Fado singer Sara Marreiros and uber-talented musician friends return this year to present the 6th Annual Winter Solstice Concert in Duncan. This beautiful Cowichan Valley tradition weaves acoustic music together with movement and voice, providing warmth and peace on the longest night of the year. This years event will be visiting Mill Bay and Victoria; the Victoria show takes place on the evening of the Winter Solstice itself.
“Every year we offer an array of different songs and 2016 will not disappoint!” explains Burdett. “… We’re bringing some original interpretations of some old classics by Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, and music from 1954’s White Christmas with Bing Crosby,” she explains. “We are also offering some gorgeous songs performed a cappella with close knit, mesmerizing harmonies, Riu Riu, a Spanish Villancico, Siberian Snows, a Russian folk song, Jane Siberry’s Calling All Angels, a classic Fado performed by Marreiros, a French 1940s’classic, Mon Coeur est un Violin, that features Richard’s violin and Cari’s voice, interwoven with Christmas favourites, Es ist Ein Ros, Sleigh Ride and Carol of the Bells, bringing you a joyful performance of exceptional winter acoustic music.
The line-up for 2016 includes internationally acclaimed musicians Richard Moody (violin), Adrian Dolan (piano, accordion, guitar), Anne Schaefer (piano, guitar, vocals), Alex Remple (bass, vocals) and vocalists Sara Marreiros and Cari Burdett. Dancer, Marisa Jackson adds movement to complete an extraordinarily rich sensory experience. To celebrate the turning wheel of the year and the return of the light, the band will invite the audience to join them in creating a one-of-a-kind, improvised soundscape, as well as a exuberant close to the evening with a hand-clapping-sing-along of This little Light of Mine.
