Event Description
On the heels of competing as a semi-finalist at the prestigious 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, Rykka is set to release her debut single “Bad Boy” from her forthcoming album Beatitudes on July 8. The infectious electro-pop fused track is produced and co-written by Warne Livesey (Chris Walla, Matthew Good, Kandle), who also produced Rykka’s new LP at Coalition Music Studios in Toronto. Beatitudes will be released later this year, followed by a support tour this Fall. More information on the release and tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Canadian-Swiss alt-pop artist Rykka recently catapulted to international success with her winning song “The Last of Our Kind” in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The B.C. born-and-raised singer beat out five other finalists during the country’s national competition to represent Switzerland. Says Rykka of the once-in-a-lifetime experience, “What a crazy and amazing ride that I’ll never forget. Eurovision connected me with so many amazing people from all over the world, and allowed me so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I’m really forever changed in the best of ways.” Eurovision is one of the world’s most watched non-sporting events.
The Vancouver-native with roots in Switzerland via her father’s side, has been travelling regularly between B.C. and Zürich since the age of 15, when she started playing guitar. The multi-instrumentalist started as an acoustic folk artist under her birth name Christina Maria before honing her sound and emerging with an alternative-pop bang. In 2013, she released her first LP under the moniker Rykka. "Kodiak," was produced by Ryan Guldemond of Mother Mother. Later in 2013 Rykka went on to win the prestigious Peak Performance Project. Since then, her restless ambition has driven her underground where she has been feverishly writing songs and experimenting with different instrumentation that she now presents as an offering to the pop-gods.
