Event Description

InterArts Centre, Rifflandia and Dockside Green present a rare speaking engagement with

Mark Frauenfelder (Founding Editor • Wired.com, Make, Boing Boing)

D'Bi Young (Poet & Playwright)

Dr. Mike North (Host, "Prototype This" • Discovery Channel)

Gwendolyn Eadie (Physicist & Figure Skater)

A rare conversation with one of the founders of the maker movement and tech guru Mark Frauenfelder. Mark makes things. He starts, founds, writes, creates, builds, generates, and establishes things like art, books, blogs, and companies. He has spoken around the world in museums, libraries, and universities about the history of making in the 20th century, the tools available now to help makers, and where the movement is going.

Frauenfelder is also very passionate about engaging youth in the maker culture early. He has spoken and led workshops at TEDxKids and has written books about making with kids, such as Maker Dad.

D’bi Young Anitafrika is a Jamaican-Canadian dub poet, monodramatist, and educator, and Dora Award-winning actor and playwright. Her creative works have not gone unnoticed: she has won many awards within the performing community and has evolved into one of the most innovative educators in Canadian performance art.

Dr. Mike North is host of Discovery Channel’s “Prototype This!,” “In The Making,” & “ The Potentialists,” and Science’s “Outrageous Acts of Science”. he is the chief technology officer at Nukotoys, host of four science and innovation shows, and runs his own design consulting business. His most passionate project is ReAllocate, an organization that seeks to provide engineering and design support to disenfranchised, underfunded, or developing communities.

Gwendolyn Eadie is a physicist at McMaster University whose work in calculating the mass of our solar system ties in with her passion of figure skating. Her recent findings studying the mass of the Milky Way, published in National Geographic this May, have caused a stir in the science world, the significance and implications of which we have yet to determine.
