Event Description

InterArts Centre, Rifflandia and Dockside Green present a rare speaking engagement with

Kim Gordon (Author & Artist • Sonic Youth)

Knatokie Ford (White House Senior Science Advisor)

Brett Gaylor (Filmmaker • "RIP: A Remix Manifesto", "Do Not Track")

A rare conversation with legendary rock musician and cultural figure Kim Gordon. Author of the seminal memoir “Girl In A Band”, and founding member and songwriter in Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon has been one of the most recognizable and celebrated figures in the last 20 years of rock. She joins us for a rare speaking engagement to share what a life in art has meant to her, where it has taken her, and what drives her forward into new territory still.

We are elated to have Knatokie Ford, Senior Science advisor at the White House and advisor to Obama, joining us for a unique contribution to the conversation. Knatokie Ford serves currently as Senior Policy Advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and is the founder Fly Sci Enterprise, a STEM education and media consulting organization. She is a ardent advocate for the diversification in science and technology, and is a celebrated science communicator.

Filmmaker and privacy expert Brett Gaylor spent a lifetime getting people onto the internet through his role at Mozilla. Through his latest interactive video series "Do Not Track", Brett has been showing people just how much of their daily lives is accessible, monetizable, and trackable in today's world, and how this massive data set is creating hauntingly accurate digital portraits that companies are using to market to consumers. Hint: much more than you would imagine.
