Event Description
Continuing our series of polemical, potluck, film jamborees, Camas Books and Infoshop invites you to join us this Saturday night for the B-movie masterpiece, "Carnival of Souls". Made for 30 thousand dollars and with a cast of non-actors, this scaretastic affair is the cinematic equivalent to a local fair's haunted house. Atmospheric like a half broken fog machine, cheesy but somehow frightening, this film follows the story of Marry Henry, a car crash surviver who cannot escape the apparitions of the dead that have come to collect her. Her plight is intensified by an unsympathetic cast (colder for their inability to act) and the fact that neither religion nor phycology can give her angst relief. And although the film resolves with a cooky cutter twist ending, it will remain with the view for some time after, haunting them with the mysteries of female alienation, the male gaze, and human sympathy.
For any horror, schlock, or feminism enthusiast, this film is a must see.
