Caveboy
With a fresh perspective on indie dream-pop that both strips down to and builds into primal, multi-layered experiences, Caveboy are embarking upon a new part of their journey. Influenced by similar childhood identities, they are the culmination of the shared life experiences of their three members: Michelle Bensimon (lead vocals, guitar, synth), Isabelle Banos (synthbass, backing vocals) and Lana Cooney (drums, backing vocals). They revel in ideas of fearlessness, sensuousness, self-sufficiency, the primitive, the extraordinary and that which is feral and cannot be tamed.
MU
Mu, A.K.A. Francesca Belcourt and Brittney Rand, embrace the cutting wavelengths of electronic music, enveloped in the comfort and softness of organic sounds. They tactfully marry evocative storytelling, electronic instrumentation and experimental production with a dreamy and ethereal pop overtone. Mu’s unique and exotic sound draws on the emotions and experiences of twentysomethings in a jaded yet still hopeful world. Their sophomore EP, II, released in February on Boompa, was described by CBC Music as “a chilled out, underwater dance party… like we’re all floating and blissed out on the ocean’s floor, weightless and free.”
Bocce Avocado
Bocce Avocado is an experimental musical project that incorporates hip-hop, world and funk into a marvellous, rum-injected, splendid, danceable iration that is spawned from the musical creativity of those in the vicinity of the Avocado members.
Mesa Luna
Vancouver musician Justice McLellan is Mesa Luna. Drum machines, analog synths, distorted bass guitars and swirling effects come together in these poignant, production-heavy pop songs. Mesa Luna released their first 7-inch on Kingfisher Bluez (Xiu Xiu, Dirty Beaches) in 2014 and followed up with the EP Crux in October of 2015 on nbd label (Plazas, Casual Luxury). The releases have received critical acclaim from publications such as The Georgia Straight, Exclaim!, Discorder, BeatRoute, Weird Canada and music blogs from around the globe. Gaining a reputation for a fierce live show, the band has opened for international touring acts Dan Deacon, Jack Garratt, La Femme and Sales. Early 2016 found Mesa Luna transforming into a new live entity and writing new material for their forthcoming debut LP.
