Rocket From Russia and CiTR Radio 101.9FM present:
ROCKET FROM RUSSIA ANNIVERSARY SHOW
Every year I celebrate Rocket From Russia anniversary and invite local and sometimes not so local bands to play a show. I try to celelbrate it in the summer time because its the furthest possible date from the actual anniversary in Janaury (I enjoy doing things not like they supposed to be). I had a few ideas on how to celebrate the anniversary this year and I decided to invite 5 local punk rock bands to play in beloved (by me) Media Club. So here's the menu for the night:
The Greatest Sons
https://thegreatestsons.bandcamp.com/
This is their 7'' release show. Their new amazing EP "Play Through The Pain, Sing Through The Strain" (I agree, this a very lengthy title) will be released as two 7''s. Who knows, maybe they will have actual physical 7''s for sale at the release show of that 7''. New song "22nd Street" of that new EP is truly magnificent...two three four.
You Big Idiot

I like You Big Idiot because all their songs sound like songs by my favourite band. They also add that fun theatrical aspect of the performance. Last time they were looking for the notorious bandit "'Shafe the Snake" and successfully found him. This time they came up with the best idea they ever had. I'm quite excited. Should we do Linoleum again?
Ellesmere

Ellesmere are back from retirement. It seems like their last show was 17 years ago. In that absence they created a new little Ellesmerian and got worse at their music instruments. Hopefully they remember how to play "Man Horse" because its their best song
The Corps
http://thecorps.bandcamp.com/
Some might say that I invited The Corps to play this show because they have a song entitled "Vasili" or because Dan plays in one of my (many) favourite bands The Real McKenzies or because they invited me to sing back up vocals on their cover of Teenage Bottlerocket and I didn't show up because it was at 11pm and I had to wake up early next morning or because my friend Trevor went to see them in Victoria and said that they were great. All that could be true. But I also like their songs. Their new EP "In Blackest Night" is really good!
Dried Out
https://driedout.bandcamp.com/album/dried-out-3
I don't even know these guys. For real. They played a show with New Swears in February. I didn't go. But before the show I listened to their bandcamp and loved every single song. Check out this song "Heartless". It's really fucking good. I decided that I want to see them perform live and invited to play this show. I hope they don't suck live.
Resolve Records
http://resolverecords.ca/
As famous Hungarian saying states: "Once you invite two Autralians to sell records at your show, then you can invite them do it again at the next one". Those Hungarians are wise people and I usually do what their sayings say. So there will be two Aussies selling great punk rock records at the show. Try to buy it off them if you can understand what the hell they are saying mate.
If you're puzzeled what the fuck Rocket From Russia is here's my resume:
http://rocketfromrussia.tumblr.com/
Rocket From From Russia is a weekly punk rock radioshow on CiTR 101.9fm in Vancouver, BC, Canada or citr.ca anywhere where internet exists. It's broadcasted live every Tuesday from 10:30-11:30am. I play new, local and international punk rock and interview bands sometimes. I also say Hello Hello Hello everytime I go on air. Broadcasted in broken English.
