Event Description
An evening of original music from the soul, from three of Vancouver's finest vocal talents:
(doors @ 8pm//show @ 9pm)
Tonye Aganaba is a citizen of the universe, undefined by boundaries. It’s a distinction that suits her well, for a woman who has lived and performed around the globe. Born in the UK to her Nigerian father, and Zimbabwean mother - she landed in Canada at the tender age of 13 - residing in rural SK, BC and AB before heading to the lower mainland. It is in Vancouver that she truly found her voice, and with it, an amazing community of musicians and artists with whom she has continued to grow and flourish as a woman, a leader, and an artist. Recently signed by 604 Records - 2016 is shaping up to be a year of note for this Vancouver songstress. https://www.facebook.com/TonyeMagicT/
Khari Wendell McClelland is bending the edges of folk, adult contemporary, and soul to create a sound all his own. Reared on gospel, hip hop, folk and soul in Hitsville, USA, the home of Motown Records, Khari began his musical education early. Every Sunday provided lessons in the roots of African American music and cultural expression, through the wafting sounds of Gospel, every other day, the sounds of hip hop and contemporary R&B blared from car speakers and boom boxes. When hearing his sound one is reminded of Bill Withers and contemporary artists such a Tobias Jesso Jr. and Leon Bridges – the richness of traditional forms interwoven with elements of contemporary urban grit and whispers of melancholy. http://www.khariwendellmcclelland.com/
Emily Chambers is a dynamic vocalist with a sultry tone and a powerhouse range. With a love for classic soul and R&B, she combines an old school Motown vibe with hints of hip hop and a little bit of Southern grit, to give you a fresh sound that hits you in the gut. After attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Emily took to the streets of Europe busking her way across the South of France and Italy; it was there that she began to hone the voice that commands attention. Arriving home in Vancouver, Emily formed a 5 piece soul/pop/funk band called Champagne Republic. Emily is in love with what she does, and it radiates to every corner of the room when she performs. With her solo EP due out this Summer, be stoked to hear what this songstress has to sing! http://www.emilychambers.ca/
